Teams, Transitions and Triangles

Beauty – be not caused – It Is –
Chase it, and it ceases –
Chase it not, and it abides

Emily Dickinson

Thanks to Andrew Taylor for this article which so eloquently explains the tensions of growing from a start up to a full fledged organization. Of special interest to me is Clara Miller's idea of the “ Iron Triangle. “ The "iron triangle" describes the dynamic relationship within any complex nonprofit endeavor between its mission and program, its organizational capacity, and its capital structure.

When I teach Floral Design to teams, the triangle is the figure most sought after figure in one's design. The triangle provides dynamism, assymetry and a stable structure. Nothing like a tripod.

An organization is a growing thing. I believe that the same principles for design apply to creating a dynamic floral arrangement as they do to building an organization.
